San Tiziano
The Past The Present The Future
From Yesterday to Today
San Tiziano was born in Sarmede in 2016, a small village in the Italian Pre-Alps, at the feet of Cansiglio. Our territory is an hilly area with an historic viticultural vocation.
The farm was founded by my grandad usil the soil he inherited from his dad and have been inhabited by vineyards since. Our tradition hold great importance to us, witness of this is our name, San Tiziano, from the name of the founder.
In 2018, once I ended my studies at the institute of viticulture of G.B. Cerletti in Conegliano; since then I’ve started taking full responsability of the farm. Initially our vineyards were made up of only two varieties: Glera and Pinot Bianco, which were cared for following the conventional agricoltural methods. After the first year I wanted to put myself to the test and produced our first sparkling wine, Galat, using our Glera grapes.
Even tho our first wine obtained good results I didn’t want to stop there. I believe the market is far too saturated of the wine which is at this point synonymous of our hills, Prosecco.
From Today to Tomorrow
Our objective is to maintain our traditions and unite them to the ideas that represent the concept of innovation and sustainability the best. I’ve revolutionized the farm direction by increasing the number of varieties with the new fungus resistant vine varieties and converting to biological farming. The new fungus resistant varieties (FRG), also know as PIWI, present many different advantages, main of which is the vastly reduced number of treatments required for the production of grapes and consequently wine. Four of these are white grape varieties: Souvignier Gris, Johanniter, Solaris, Muscaris; and three are red grape: Prior, Cabernet Carbon e Cabernet Cortis.
I believe in the potential of such varieties which offer the possibility to create wine with unique organolectic characteristic which are still undiscovered.
I firmly believe that by following the ideals of biologic farming and with the innovative viticulture offered by FRG varieties we have the possibility to create a reality which aims to obtain a quality product which is 100% sustainable.
